Your Adhesive Has a Lifespan — Here's What You Need to Know
Lash adhesive is one of those products that's easy to overlook — you buy it once and assume it'll last forever. But like all beauty products, lash glue and glue strips do have a shelf life, and using expired or degraded adhesive is one of the most common reasons lashes don't perform as well as they should.
In this guide, we'll cover how long different types of adhesive last, how to store them properly to extend their life, and the telltale signs it's time to replace yours.
Types of Lash Adhesive and Their Lifespans
Liquid Lash Bond (e.g. Clear Lash Bond)
Our Clear Lash Bond is a liquid adhesive applied to the lash band before placement. When stored correctly (more on that below), an unopened bottle typically lasts 12–18 months. Once opened, you'll generally get the best performance within 3–6 months.
Glue Strips (e.g. Black Glue Strips)
Our Black Glue Strips are pre-cut adhesive strips that you apply to the lash band. Individual strips are single-use, but the pack itself stays fresh for 6–12 months when stored properly in a cool, dry place away from humidity.
Pre-Glued Lash Adhesive (on the lash band)
The adhesive on our Pre-Glued No Faff Lashes is designed to last for multiple uses. With proper care and storage, the adhesive on the band typically remains effective for 2-3 wears if wearing daily. After that, the grip will start to diminish and it's time for a fresh pair.
Signs Your Adhesive Needs Replacing
Don't wait until your lashes are falling off mid-evening to realise your glue has gone off. Watch out for these signs:
- It's changed consistency — liquid adhesive that has become stringy, lumpy, or unusually thick has started to degrade
- It's changed colour — clear adhesive that has yellowed or gone cloudy is past its best
- It smells different — a stronger or unusual smell can indicate the formula has broken down
- It takes much longer to get tacky — or doesn't seem to get tacky at all
- Your lashes aren't holding — if you're doing everything right but lashes keep lifting or falling off, the adhesive is likely the culprit
- The glue strip isn't sticking — if a strip peels away from the lash band without gripping, it's lost its adhesion
How to Store Your Adhesive Properly
Good storage dramatically extends the life of your lash adhesive. Here's how to do it right:
- Keep it cool and dry — avoid storing adhesive in the bathroom, where steam and humidity can degrade it quickly. A bedroom drawer or makeup bag in a cool room is ideal.
- Keep it upright — store liquid adhesive bottles upright to prevent the formula from settling unevenly or leaking into the nozzle.
- Seal it tightly after every use — exposure to air causes adhesive to thicken and dry out faster. Always close the cap or reseal the strip pack immediately after use.
- Keep it away from direct sunlight — UV light and heat can break down the adhesive formula.
- Don't refrigerate — unless the product specifically states this, refrigeration can cause condensation inside the bottle, which affects performance.
How to Get the Most Out of Every Product
A few simple habits will help your adhesive go further:
- Wipe the nozzle of liquid adhesive clean after every use before replacing the cap
- Only dispense what you need — don't squeeze out excess and put it back
- Note the date you opened your adhesive so you know when it's approaching the end of its best-use window
When to Stock Up
If you wear lashes regularly, we'd recommend keeping a spare adhesive in your kit so you're never caught short. Running out mid-routine is frustrating — and using old adhesive just because it's all you have is a recipe for lashes that don't perform.

The Bottom Line
Lash adhesive isn't a forever product — but with proper storage and a little attention, it'll serve you well for months. If your lashes have been underperforming lately, fresh adhesive might be all you need to get back to flawless results. 💕
